Both DEC’s and EPC’s come with an advisory report to provide
recommendations for improving the energy efficiency of the
DEC’s are based on the actual energy consumption and following
the report’s recommendations will lead to a reduction in energy
bills and an improved energy rating for the following year.
TIP: Staff training and awareness campaigns can make an instant improvement
in your energy consumption, along with many of the no-cost, low-cost
EPC recommendations are based on the building.
In order to raise the building’s energy rating,
improvements need to be made to the building’s
fabric or services. These can be more costly to
implement such as adding insulation or replacing
a boiler, so the ideal time to consider them is
during a refurbishment or renovation. If you want
further advice on how to move your building up an
energy band, please contact us.
TIP: Check that tungsten lamps have been
swapped for low energy CFLs, which will save
money and improve the energy rating. Watch out
for some of the supermarket offers and get your
CFLs for pennies!
